Interview With Norell And The Dub Factory

1 – When did you first get into music? What or who inspired you?

Being a band there is no set answer to this question, we shall say that the majority of us can’t really recall the day we started playing music, it just happened at some point and it brought us all together as we are today. Inspiration has a different meaning and beginning to everyone of us, for myself Norell it was the incredible passion for being on stage performing since I was 5, for Niko on bass it was the love for the crazy green hair-style of Flea from Red Hot Chili Peppers and more funny stories could come up but I guess we all agree saying that the amazing feeling of making music is what made us want to learn how to do it and become the musicians we all are today.

2 – Who did you grow up listening to, and does that impact on what you create now?

Listing the influences that each of us had would be as silly as impossible I guess, sometimes we spend our nights all together chatting and listening to old tunes that we used to love when we were kids and it’s crazy how different we were and we still are. But for some reason when it gets to play original music we’re all united under a sound and one name: Norell & The Dub Factory.  To answer your question here’s what we all grew up listening to: Norell started with pop music as well as rock from Pink Floyd to Queen when she was a teenager, funny enough Akira, the guitarist of the band, would say that Pink Floyd and Queen were the first bands he worshiped and took as a model too. Niko was into the hard rock sound of Led Zeppelin and RHCP, Carlo loved hip-hop music, local and international singer/songwriter music and Ska while Sam grew up with her mother’s wide music collection, most memorable are: Kate Bush, Guns ’N’ Roses & Diana Ross.

3 – How long have you been playing/writing?

The project started in 2013 and from then on the band has been settling down during that year until we finally established who the members where and what everyone’s role was. Most of the music which has been released until today has been produced and written by Norell & Niko but the full band adds some sort of magic and life to the songs when played live with all of us 5 together. We have been playing live for more then a year now and we’re constantly adding something new to the set which expands as get tighter.

4 – How often do you play live (include details and links for any upcoming gigs)?

We play quite regularly in London, we normally have at least 1 or 2 gigs per month plus any last minute show that might come up. Our next very interesting gig is going to be at The Gorilla perfume shop, that is going to be an acoustic session that will feature our songs associated with essences from the boutique, it’s going to be quite special, follow the link for details https://www.facebook.com/events/120263931727179/

More gigs will be soon announced so make sure you’re following our facebook page as we keep everyone up to date on that platform.

The Stow Festival and a few stages in Ibiza for the end of the summer will also be welcoming us for some shows.

5 – What has been your favourite moment in music?

That’s a tricky question, we like to think that the future is going to bring us loads of incredible memories and moments that we will remember forever. Thinking about it, there are gigs that have made us feel incredibly good on stage and some amazing fans that have been following us for quite awhile now spoiling us with love and massive support. This make us all feel part of a great experience which can’t be divided in better or worse moments.

6 – Where is the best place to find you online?

The best place to get to know something about us is our website which you can find at norellandthedubfactory.com which is where you can follow us on socials, listen to our newest and older songs and get an idea of our look as well. Don’t forget to join our mailing list as well so to keep you updated with what is happening with us and to always get some treats and previous from us.
